Jackson's Mountain
Published in Paperback by Hampshire Books (March, 1990)
Author: Roy A. Rogers
Average review score:

A well-written account of VietNam helicopter pilots
Roy A. Rogers has proven himself well on his first publication. Jackson's Mountain chronicles the experiences of five young pilots from flight school through the VietNam War as they discover themselves, each other, and the Spirit that binds them together. Written from the perspectives of multiple characters, Mr. Rogers provides a view of how a shared experience can affect those who live it in dramatically different ways. The goal is not to glamorize the War, indeed, VietNam becomes a character in itself. Rather, it is an introspective look at human nature as it is revealed and witnessed by others.

Jackson's Valley Campaign: November 1861-June 1862 (Great Campaigns Series)
Published in Hardcover by DaCapo Press (November, 1900)
Author: David G. Martin
Average review score:

I loved the battle maps and humour - a must read
What a wonderful and enthrilling book. Doc Martin really managed to let the reader feel like he'd be part of the whole story. From the beginning of the book the reader feels like standing right next to Stonewall Jackson, the tactical genius who rewrote military history during the Civil War. It is an absolute pleasure to feel and see the numerous photographs in the book become alive with the words of the author. The fact that beside Stonewall Jackson the book offers an exclusive view on all the other important personalities behind the scenes of the war and around the map-table makes the reader finish the book with an exhausted - because of the many details shown - but satisfied impression about this time period and it's heroes. I highly enjoyed analyzing the movements of the opposing forces on the charts and maps and I can only recommend Mr. Martin's other campaign books 'The Peninsula Campaign', 'The Chancellorville Campaign', and 'The Philadelphia Campaign', as well as 'Confederate Monuments at Gettysburg' and 'Gettysburg July 1'.

The Jacksonian Persuasion: Politics and Belief
Published in Hardcover by Stanford Univ Pr (December, 1960)
Author: Marvin Meyers
Average review score:

A tour de force in American intellectual history
Marvin Meyers has written a trenchant analysis of the Jacksonian period which constitutes a radical departure from the prior literature. He stakes his ground early by noting that "political democracy was the medium more than the achievement of the Jacksonian party". The work recalls astute observers of American society at that time such as Tocqueville, Leggett, Sedgewick and Rantoul. Here through their eyes we become witness to the paradoxical and nuanced nature of the Jacksonian "persuasion" (as opposed to ideology, for example). It is the first time that we are confronted with the notion of fear in American history, in which the Jacksonians view the ineluctability of the American experiment with a degree of circumspection. Meyers' work is also outstanding as a paradigm for understanding the thoughts and ideas of a given epoch: to understand those thinkers as they understood themselves.

Jane's All the World's Aircraft

The authoritative source for aircraft information
A must-have for those in aircraft design and operation. Jane's has the authoritative data on existing aircraft for use by pilots, operations managers, designers, engineers, and government officials. It is very readable and full of photos, drawings, and technical information.

Jane's All the Worlds Aircraft 1997-1998 (Serial)
Published in Hardcover by Jane's Information Group (October, 1997)
Authors: Paul Jackson, Kenneth Munson, Lindsay Peacock, and John W. R., Dr. Taylor
Average review score:

(Annual) Definintive guide to aircraft and engines
For almost 80 years Jane's has published an annual guide to currently produced aircraft (including Remotely Piloted Vehicles, Balloons, Sailplanes, Sport (homebuilt/experimental) aircraft, and aircraft engines. It has become the definitive guide to aircraft. Detailed descriptions of the aircraft, performance, systems and design are included. Jane's style is dry (arid) but well developed. Any reader whose interests are in the romance associated with a maker or model, or who delights in the vicarious thrill of climb power and roll rates will find this a dull text. The reader who need to determine which models were manufactured in which years and equipped with which engines will find a data trove within these pages.
